Primers are a tricky business so we are here to help you as much as possible. We’ve compiled a list of our top 5 favourite primers and the best ways to use them.
Top Tip: We highly recommend applying any primer with clean bare hands as the natural body heat will help it sink into your skin and set it better for a nicer finish.

Benefit PORE-fessional Face Primer
This Primer from benefit reduces the appearance of pores and give the skin an airbrushed finish. The PORE-fessional primer works well with most foundations as well as many skin types, it works extremely well on oily skin as it soaks up any excess oil on the skin.

SmashBox Photo Finish Foundation Primer
The Smashbox Primer is a silicone based primer so it works very well with most liquid foundations and a few powdered oil based foundations. Its extremely lightweight and has a slight blurring effect on the pores and gives a natural flawless finish. This suits most skin types including dry skin as it is hydrating as well.

Urban Decay Primer Potion
The Urban Decay Eye Primer Potion comes in different shades to suit skin tones, we personally use Eden as it is the lightest skin colour available. There are currently 5 shades in the range, Freebase – A white coloured primer perfect for mixing or on its own, Eden – A light Nude matte shade, Sin – A light Nude Shimmer shade, Minor Sin – A slightly darker version of Sin, Caffeine – a medium brown colour perfect for darker skin tones. This is our favourite eye primer, it never creases and is very reliable. All colours stand out and blend together well on this base.

Kat Von D Beauty Lock-It Colour Correcting Eyeshadow Primer
This eye primer also comes in various shades. Fair – A neutral pink-yellow light shade, Light – A slightly more yellow based light shade, Medium – A slightly more pink based medium shade, Tan – A darker red based brown tan shade, Deep – A more yellow based brown tan shade. It has a very sticky consistency and it sets quickly so you must blend as soon as you apply it. We use the lightest shade.

Nip + Fab Viper Venom Micro Blur Fix
This Primer is an airbrushing and pore blurring primer. Apply with clean hands and wait at least 5 minutes before applying any face makeup as it allows the product to sink into the skin. This is also a silicone based primer so it works well with oil based and liquid foundations.

We hope you at least consider trying some of these products in your makeup regimen, we promise you that these primers will change the way your makeup looks for the better. For your convenience we have linked where you can buy all of these products (Australian websites) in their title.
